REPORT ZANZIBAR VIOLATIONS OF NIGHTCLUB LIQUOR LICENSE

The D. C. Alcohol Beverage Control Board, on 8/13/08, approved Zanzibar’s request to convert its liquor license to a “nightclub” status from “Restaurant with Entertainment.” As a part of that ruling, 12 conditions were placed on the licensee as “a term and condition of the license.”

Our ANC staff will immediately forward your report to the chief investigator of the ABC Board so that ABRA will know of any violations to the liquor license.

Check appropriate items to identify problems or violations. The ABC Board said that the licensee shall:

1___ maintain kitchen, kitchen staff, wait staff to serve food to patrons, and the supplies and equipment necessary for the daily preparation and service of prepared food menu items other than snack food;

2___ be open for dinner on days the licensee is open for business;

3___ offer food service until at least two (2) hours prior to closing;

4___ promote food sales inside the establishment by offering menus to seated patrons;

5___ apply to MPD for reimbursable detail from at least the hours of 11:00 p.m. to closing;

6___ not distribute flyers or handbills outside of the establishment;

7___ make an effort to attend ANC6D meetings;

8___ maintain a limiter on its sound system;

9___ post signs near doors leading to the deck and patio asking patrons to be considerate and respectful of neighbors;

10___ install double entry doors at the exit leading to the outdoor summer garden;

11___ install and maintain working security cameras which record for up to 30 days and which cover public areas including but not limited to the public entrances and exits, the dance floor, bar areas, and stairways;

12___ keep windows closed when music is being played, as well as doors, except when patrons are exiting and entering.
